Designed for professional dancers, recent graduates, and final-year dance students, this workshop offers an immersive exploration of the connection between movement and text with acclaimed choreographer Hannes Langolf, performer Ed Mitchell, and writer Andrew Muir.
Drawing from the creative process behind their genre-fusing show HOW ABOUT NOW, this week-long workshop invites participants to investigate the interplay between choreography and spoken and written text. You’ll engage in in-depth daily physical training and practical exercises that challenge conventional approaches of movement invention, exploring how movement can enrich narrative, embolden meaning, or generate new layers of interpretation.
You will be guided through a process to write your own monologue, which will then be used as a foundation to create movement that coexists alongside the spoken text, investigating how choreography enhances the spoken word, practicing the challenge of multitasking both worlds, and unpacking how a phyiscal layer can lead to richer story-telling.
With a focus on collaborative experimentation, this workshop encourages you to push your artistic boundaries, discovering how text and physicality can work together to create powerful, multi-dimensional performances.
This is a unique opportunity to gain insight into the creative methodology behind HOW ABOUT NOW and to develop your multidimensionality as a movement artist.
We look forward to working with you and are committed to a respecful, inclusive, collaborative environment.
